- Our city’s tap water is produced by modern water purification facilities equipped with technologically advanced production facilities. Moreover, our tap water is subjected to strict water quality inspections and testing across the entire system, from the water source to the faucets in citizens’ homes, making it absolutely safe.
- In addition to the 59 water quality inspection items prescribed by law, our city conducts water quality inspections against a total of 175 items, including the 25 monitoring items required by the Ministry of Environment and the 91 self-monitoring items imposed independently by Daegu City, ensuring the production and supply of safe tap water in the city.
It is safe to drink tap water in Daegu?
- Made up of 10 experts, including professors, the Tap Water Evaluation Committee carries out quarterly tap water quality inspections throughout the city. The inspection results have consistently confirmed and verified that our tap water is safe to drink.
- The slight odor of the tap water that people sometimes notice is the result of the chlorine that is put into the water to eliminate various bacteria during the water purification and treatment process. The odor disappears upon boiling the water or just letting it sit for a while.

- Daegu’s water quality standard was set to reduce the probability of any negative impact on human health to 1/1,000 for people consuming two liters of water per day over a period of 70 years. For carcinogenicity, the probability of negative health impact was further reduced to 1/100,000. Daegu produces and supplies tap water that more than meets this standard, meaning that the city’s citizens can drink the tap water safely for a lifetime.
